In our case - if my parents and my friend's parents had thought there would be embarrassing repercussions they wouldn't have indulged their willfull 8 year old daughters. Looking at it now as an adult - I think it's amusing and a bit embarrssing of how silly I was ... but at 8 everyone does something in their life that's silly. I’m glad your brother was able to enter the priesthood. This ceremony was likewise forgotten until my brother applied to enter the Jesuit seminary. When he was asked if he'd ever been married, he had to admit to the (non-binding) marriage! Fortunately, it was not an impediment to him entering the priesthood!
