MartheE, contests have done well for me. I had several contests where I gave away my first book, and a good share of those readers bought my second book. That’s a relief! But in these times, it’s hard to spend trade paperback price for a book written by a completely unknown author, so that’s why I decided to go the contest route.

Yes, Ashley, and I have to admit, it took me by surprise. There’s a lot to promotion, way more than I included here. It’s time-consuming and can be expensive if you’re not careful.

Thanks, Martha. I’ve had good luck participating in group scavenger hunts. One problem is authors hide the answer or graphic too well. It’s my opinion that the purpose of the contest is to get the reader to the website so I usually post a link to the answer right on the contest page. I aim to please, not annoy, and it’s really annoying to hung all over a site and not find what you need.

Wow! That was really a great article. I’m an avid reader, and I LUV doing contests as a way to read new authors. I have found lots of new authors this way. I love scavenger hunts, as long as they aren’t too awfully hard! Have a great day!

Loved the post today and being able to look at the different types of promotion. I fell in love with Down Home Ever Lovin Mule Blues. I would love to win a copy of this book to give to my mom, she loves books like this and I could just see her laughing her head off now!

Very interesting post! I am a reader and I like different contests. I don’t always get to do the scavenger hunts cause I run out of time… but they are fun and I learn lots of different authors and new books I would like! I have won quite a number of books this past year and I have been posting the good reviews as a way to say thank you and spread the word about a good book! I have also bought other books by some of the authors so I hope they find contests helpful to them.
