So far I've only published with Lulu. I never think my work is good enough for the big boys. Maybe one of the next six books I"m working on, or maybe the Amanda series. I'm waiting for the frost to melt so I can see the grass.

Great post, Deb!

I also liked your comment about needing "down time". Sure, it is possible to write a book in four or six weeks (I write category), but I never forget that it takes me a week or two to come up with the next idea!

Excellent post, Debra. All your points are well thought out and spot on.

Re: time to produce a book. I would add that a writer should allow extra time once she finishes her m/s to give her the op to go over it again for a final polish. Kinda like Tinker Bell giving it that magic sparkle!

So right-on-the-nose!

Love the remark about being asked where can they buy the book as if you sell them out of your trunk!

Great post, Deb! Being a published author doesn't mean the challenges go away--they just change a bit.

My first book comes out in October and I'm experiencing everything you're talking about. I'm supremely grateful and excited this is happening to me after all my years of work... and yet I know there's so much work ahead.

Sometimes I think the grass is only green if you travel with your own can of spraypaint.

Awesome post. As someone who just sold in October, I can understand most of this. :) I sold in category, so I need to produce pretty quick. My second book was accepted in Feb; now, it's on to the third -- which is due in June, LOL!

What a great post, Deb! I made my first sale just over a year ago, right around Christmas, and my first book releases this June. And, yes, my life has completely changed. I never expected the extent of it. Of course, I wouldn't change it for the world, but the change has been drastic, and at times, incredibly stressful. Anyway, thanks for your post!
