Anne--I thought I knew one of them--#5--Linda Lael Miller, but no, it was from Nora Robert's only Western. So, I failed miserably at the match. LaVyrle Spencer always had wonderful openings in her books. Someone should do a study of her 26 romance novels and see a master at work. I can't recall the exact wording, but from her THE HELLION, the opening is stellar. "Everyone in Russelville, Alabama knew Tommy Lee drove like a **something something,**, whored like a prisoner just out, and drank like as **something.** (If I were at home, I'd pull the book down and copy the opening line. I have all 25 books.) Very interesting topic, and I'm reading a little book on just--hooks. It's "Hooked," by Les Edgerton. Great little book. He has several, each one a one topic. Celia

Great blog. Those hooks were so good, it was difficult to attach an author to the openings if you hadn't read the books. I know which openings I liked the most, and those authors were the ones I frequently read. Imagine that. By the way your hook sounded good as well.
