Blog Guidelines
Liberty States Fiction Writers shall maintain a blog presence on the organization’s website. A volunteer shall be selected from the general membership to oversee the scheduling of the participants and shall report to the Vice President.
All blogs should be sent to the blog coordinator on the Friday prior to the week they will appear.
Blog entries will be posted on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Blogs will refrain from blatant self promotion. They should not be religious or political in nature. All blog entries shall be respectful and pertinent to the craft and business of writing. For the safety of the participants, it is highly recommended that specific personal information should not be included in any post.
Monthly blog entries shall include:
One monthly “Road Story” by either a published or unpublished member, that
details their quest toward publication.
The Featured Authors for the month shall each be invited to do a blog post. They will be allowed to include self promotion in the entry. It is recommended that they do a “story behind the story” which discusses how they came up with their story idea or an element of their work.
The monthly program speaker will be offered a blog spot to appear before the scheduled meeting date.
We will allow guest bloggers. The guests will be industry professionals, including but not limited to, editors, agents, cover artists, and marketing individuals. In addition, guest bloggers may include a professional who has an expertise in a field of interest to the members including but not limited to firefighters, law professionals, and experts in any field that might be relevant to the members for background information to complete their works.
Should blog members request ideas, they might include some of the following but not be limited to these categories:
- Newspaper article or video that pertains to the publishing industry
- Book review on a craft or reference book
- How they come up with story ideas
- How they developed a character
- Motivational or time management
- Balancing writing life with real life
Blog entries will include a mix of light and serious topics.
Each month, the blog shall sponsor a contest. The prize shall consist of donated items from Liberty States Fiction Writers members. On the first of the month, a listing of the prize shall be posted on the blog. On the last day of the month, the blog coordinator shall randomly select a day and a
post number. For example, the coordinator might choose the 20th of the month, the 13th post of that day. That person will then be announced as the winner of the monthly contest and the coordinator will be responsible for contacting the person donating the prize to arrange for delivery. Should there be more than one monthly prize, the above process will be repeated.
