Write Nice(ly): How to Give and Receive Constructive Criticism with Lois Winston June 2021

Writers hook up with critique partners, join critiquing groups, and enter writing contests for feedback on their manuscripts. Few people go out of their way to be nasty, but many well-intentioned critiquers and judges either bring their own personal biases into play when evaluating someone else’s work or lack the writing skills to properly critique or judge another writer. Not only is this no help to the writer, but often the comments can be either detrimental or even devastating.

On the other hand, too many writers fall in love with every word they commit to paper and can’t handle even the most constructive of criticisms, whether from a fellow author, a contest judge, an agent, or an editor. Part of becoming a writer is learning how to handle criticism of your work and using that criticism to improve your writing.

In this workshop, USA Today and Amazon bestselling author and retired literary agent Lois Winston will offer some “nuts and bolts” writing advice, as well as show you how to both give and receive constructive criticism, which in turn will improve your own writing.

About the Presenter: USA Today and Amazon bestselling and award-winning author Lois Winston writes mystery, romance, romantic suspense, chick lit, women’s fiction, children’s chapter books, and nonfiction under her own name and her Emma Carlyle pen name.
