After writing dozens of YA’s, I steered away from writing mysteries because I was afraid of tackling a complex plot. But I was wrong to be intimidated because in a mystery, solving the murder is the plot! I immediately wrote seven mysteries for Penguin-Random House and I’m going to tell you my secret.

In this fun, interactive workshop, we’ll tackle the “plot wheel” I created, and unravel the secret to a dynamite synopsis, the all-important pitch and of course, how to create believable victims, investigators, and suspects. Whether you’re writing a humorous cozy, a hard-boiled detective story or an edgy thriller, you’ll find some shortcuts that will work for you. We’ll touch on research, the end game, dropping red herrings here and there and a quick view of serial killers. If you need any psychological insights into developing your character, I’m a licensed psychologist and we can cover that, too.

About the Presenter: Mary Kennedy is the author of 47 novels, all to major New York publishers and her books have sold 4 million copies.

She’s a licensed psychologist in private practice and when she’s not traveling to sunny places for research, she’s home in Delaware, trying to psychoanalyze her cats.
