Workshop: How to Turn Your Hours of Research into a Profitable Side Hustle
As writers, we all do research, whether we’re writing historical fiction, fantasy, contemporary romance, book club novels, or non-fiction. If your character is into crystals, horses, 19th century etiquette, or ballroom dance, you have the knowledge. Maybe you or your characters have personal hobbies like genealogy, bookbinding, crochet, or blacksmithing. Once you’ve researched your novel, what do you do with all that knowledge? Don’t waste your research, whether it’s on women in WW2, Scottish clans, Regency seamstresses, or even your family history. Turn it into a presentation to market yourself, your books, and your knowledge to an audience. Libraries, historical societies, and other groups are always looking for programming beyond author talks & book signings. They pay for programs, so why not offer them what they want and get paid for it?
About the Presenter: Barb Warner Deane is the award-winning author of four published novels and a frequent public speaker on the role of American women in World War Two, as well as her books and writing historical fiction. She has spoken at more than 150 libraries, historical societies, book clubs, and women’s groups in IL, IN, MI, WS, GA, NY, and at the National Conference of the Historical Writers of American in Williamsburg, VA, the Windy City chapter of the Romance Writers of America, and at other writer and veterans’ groups.
